e-RAPORT MSPO 1/2009
Polish-French Letter of Intent
01-09-2009
Zenon Kosiniak-Kamysz, Polish Undersecretary of Defence and general (Ingénieur général de l'armement) Alain Costes, the Director of the Department of Europe and South America in the Armament Directorate (DGA) of the French MoD have yesterday signed a letter of intent on supporting the efforts of industrial bodies of both countries aimed at the multi-layer anti-aircraft defence.

The declaration was signed on behalf of the Ministers of Defence of both countries. Although this is a highly general document, it was signed against the backdrop of French VL Mica and Aster 30 anti-aircraft/anti-missile missiles and in the presence of, among others, Cezary Szczepański, the manager of the Przemysłowy Instytut Telekomunikacji (PIT).

In 2007 PIT and CNPEP RADWAR SA have signed an agreement with the European MBDA concern about realisation of a common project: the Future System of Anti-Aircraft Defence for he Polish Armed Forces. On 17 July this year the agreement was complemented by a contract between Bumar and MBDA about the modernisation of the Polish air defence system. It assumes exchange of technology and information necessary to create a system that will include products from both parties. In the case of the air defence system these could include Polish command centres, radars and Grom very short range missiles, and French VL Mica and Aster 30 missiles that could together form multi-layer air defence.
