The Military Central Bureau of Design and Technology (WCBKT) present the Stella-100 lighting device at Europoltech 2015. It is designed to improve visibility at airfields, around objects or when during rescue operations with no access to permanent power supply. A few copies have already been sold abroad.
WCBKT is a company specialising in the supply of auxiliary equipment for the air force. Therefore, the primary objective of the development of the Stella-100 mobile device was additional illumination of airfields, airstrips or hangar facilities. It is in that capacity that initial foreign users operate them.
An independent light source may have an almost unlimited range of applications, from construction sites, ship decks, through rescue operations, up to field troop deployment areas. During Europoltech 2015 Stella-100 is offered primarily to emergency services, including fire-fighters, as it is a perfect solution to accident scene illumination.
The device consists of a uniaxial chassis, which mounts a generator with a 418 cc diesel engine. The 16-litre fuel tank is enough for 20-hour operation of the set. But the most important element of the device is the extendable mast, 3.94 m high, with a LED lamp head (2 x 400 W and 4 x 800 W LED’s), which provide a luminous flux of 100 thousand lm. This is equivalent to approx. 75 conventional 100 W light bulbs. The stream is formed into a beam of 120°-150°.
The mast is ejected automatically. The operator controls the device using a special desktop and can freely adjust the height and the lighting direction of the lamp head, or select an operating mode, such as rotation. Stella-100 also has an additional air compressor, and optionally a spray painting set, for example.
The total weight is 550 kg, which makes it basically towable by any type of motor vehicle. The manufacturer declares that, depending on the requirements of the user, technical specifications of individual components of the system can be changed freely. For the Border Guard or military field facility protection, it is possible to fit the mast with reconnaissance devices, such as cameras, and to integrate several such devices into one system.
