The MAHSW mortat designed in R&D theme Rak,will be first time publicly demostrated on MSPO Kielce at 6-9th Sept.this year. In the final shape it will have modified turret, optically smaller.
Exhibited here solution presents changes introduced during facyory tests arranged from Sept. 2009 on tracked chassis ( MAHSW-G),BASED ON 122 MM 2s1GOŻDZIK SP howitzer.
Changes introduced this time comprise:
- CM120 sighting system (made by AREX) with day-night cameras and laser rangefinder
- Changes of shape to enable installation of CM120
- Changes in rotating mechanism
- Barrell recoil sensor permitting safer use
- Modern design of turret drive ( easier maintenance)
- Redesign of loading and ammo magazine - according to factory tests effects
- Turret basket changes
- Reduction of weight of some elements
The first factory firing station testswit first turret placed on Rosomak have been finished.During IIIrd quarter of the year ,the placement of mortar on the APC base in WZM Siemianowice will be finished and during first half of 2011 the MAHSW-K will go through tests. The tracked chassis for MAHSW-G is currently under construction and has to be finished in 2011.
At October 1st.2009 CPW HSW signed an arrangement with MoD dor designing ( with deadline at November 2011) the so called Company Firing Module of 120 mmMAHSW mortars under code name Rak.
The module will comprise 2 prototypes of mortars: one tracked - based on modified chassis of Gżdzik 2S1 SP howitzer( MAHSW-G) and second - wheeled MAHSW-K on Rosomak APC chassis, one fire control vehicle ( adapted from such one designed for 155mm KRAB SP howitzer) with command and fire control system AZALIA ( by WB Electronics),the reconaissance vehicle ( armoured,mine-resistant,4x4),ammo carrier and service vehicle ( both vehicles based on Jelcz chassis, similar to ones designed for KRAB ) - the value of contract makes 60,9 million PLN.
After 2012 in Polish Land Forces there should be commissioned about twenty fire support company groups with MAHSW mortars, including 6 to 8 fire support two-platoon teams.Other, quite reasonable idea, is to commission 3 platoon companies that would better fit the Rosomak brigades. This does mean an order for 48 - 64 MAHSW-K mortars.According to Rosomak program 64 basic chassis will be included here up to 2018.
